The True Cost of "Too Cheap": Why Ethical Shopping Starts With RollyBerry
Share
Most people associate unethical production with the fashion industry and rightly so. But the same problem runs deep in the stationery, gift, and lifestyle product space too. Cheap notebooks, mass-produced collectables, and low-quality accessories, many of these are made under the same conditions, just with less public attention.
That's exactly the cycle we started RollyBerry to push back against.
We've all been there. You're scrolling through an online marketplace, and you spot something that looks amazing: a cute stationery set, a beautifully designed journal, a collectable figure and...the price is almost unbelievably low. Your first instinct is excitement. Your second question should be: how is this so cheap?
It's a question most of us don't stop to ask. But we think it's one of the most important questions you can ask as a consumer today.
The Uncomfortable Truth Behind Ultra-Low Prices
Here's the reality: when a product is priced so low that it barely covers shipping costs, someone or something is paying the difference.
Mass-produced, ultra-cheap goods often come at a serious cost. We are talking about factories where workers, including children, are paid next to nothing. We are talking about unsafe working conditions, no labour protections, and supply chains so long and so opaque that the brands selling you those products genuinely have no idea where they came from or how they were made. The price tag looks like a win for you, but somewhere down the line, someone is suffering for it.
We know that's heavy. But it's the truth, and we think you deserve to know it.
Fast Fashion Has a Lifestyle Problem
Most people associate unethical production with the fashion industry and rightly so. But the same problem runs deep in the stationery, gift, and lifestyle product space too. Cheap notebooks, mass-produced collectables, and low-quality accessories, many of these are made under the same conditions, just with less public attention.
That's exactly the cycle we started RollyBerry to push back against.
So, Who Are We Exactly?
Honestly? We're just three people operating out of a garage with a big dream and an even greater sense of purpose.
No massive warehouse. No corporate team. No investors breathing down our necks telling us to cut costs at any expense. Just three people who are genuinely passionate about beautiful, meaningful products and equally passionate about making sure those products are sourced the right way.
We started RollyBerry because we were frustrated. Frustrated with the race to the bottom that so many online shops participate in. Frustrated with the lack of transparency. And honestly, frustrated that so many of the products we loved — unique stationery, charming collectables, thoughtfully designed lifestyle goods — were either impossible to find locally or only available through sellers we couldn't trust. So we decided to do something about it.
Bringing the World to Your Door — the Right Way
A big part of what makes RollyBerry different is that many of our products are exclusively sourced overseas. These are items you genuinely cannot find on the shelves of your local store: unique designs, limited-run pieces, and products from independent creators and ethical manufacturers that most people in other countries simply don't have access to.
Our job is to bridge that gap. To find those products, build relationships with the right suppliers, and bring them to you — with full confidence in how and where they were made.
Every product we carry has been chosen intentionally. We ask questions. We do the research. We don't just pick whatever is cheapest and slap a label on it. If we wouldn't buy it ourselves, it doesn't make it into our shop.
What We Stand For: Our Ethical Guidelines
No Child Labour — We will never work with suppliers that employ underage workers under any circumstances. Full stop.
Fair Wages and Safe Conditions — Every supplier we work with must demonstrate that their workers are compensated fairly and work in safe environments.
Transparent Sourcing — We know where our products come from. We're not hiding behind a long, murky supply chain.
Quality Over Quantity — We'd rather carry fewer products that we truly believe in than flood our store with cheap fillers.
Sustainability Minded — We are actively working to reduce waste in our packaging and operations, because the planet matters to us too.
Supporting Small and Independent Creators — Many of the brands and makers we work with are small operations themselves — people who pour their hearts into what they make. We're proud to help give them a platform.
Spend a Little More, Feel a Lot Better
We're not going to pretend that RollyBerry is the cheapest option out there. We're not, and we never will be, and that's intentional.
What we can promise you is this: when you buy from us, you know exactly what you're getting. A product that was made ethically. A product that was chosen carefully. A product that was packed and shipped with genuine care by a tiny team that actually gives a damn.
When you shop with us, you're not just buying a notebook or a cute little collectable. You're making a choice about the kind of world you want to support with your money. And we think that matters.
A Garage, a Dream, and a Long Way to Go
We won't pretend we have it all figured out. We're a small team still finding our footing, still growing, still learning. But we show up every single day with the same intention we started with — to do this the right way, even when the easier path would be to cut corners.
We genuinely believe that consumers are smarter and more conscious than many big companies give them credit for. You care about where things come from. You care about quality. You care about the story behind what you buy.
And so do we.
So next time you see a price that seems too good to be true, it probably is. And when you're ready for something better, we'll be here, waiting for you.
Welcome to RollyBerry. We're glad you found us.
